What is The Match?

by Sarah Henderson

Small creative businesses and self-employed creatives are the lifeblood of east London. They’re what makes this area distinctive, but many are struggling for survival in the current crisis, and may slip between the cracks of current government support available.

Meanwhile, lots of skilled professionals have been furloughed from their jobs, and are finding themselves with spare time and skills to share.

The Match aims to join the dots, matching skilled professionals who are furloughed from their jobs with small businesses for strategic and practical business support during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This scheme is also open to voluntary sector organisations and community groups who need support.

If you are a furloughed worker with time and skills to offer or a business /organisation looking for support, we’d love to hear from you.

This project has been initiated by Echo, Loughborough University London and other organisations in the Hackney Wick and Fish Island Creative Enterprise Zone.

Matches will be powered by the Echo skill-sharing platform (economyofhours.com) – fuelling exchange in East London since 2014.

How does it work?

by Sarah Henderson
For volunteers…
  • Make a positive impact with your time
  • Grow your skillset and experience
  • Start with 1 hour, with longer projects available if you like
For businesses…
  • Access expert support across key areas incl. fundraising, marketing, HR and finance
  • Build your capacity and business resilience
  • It’s all for free

To start with, all support will be delivered in the format of a 1 hour call (on Zoom, or the platform of your choice). Where there’s scope for volunteers to deliver a bigger piece of support following the initial meeting, we warmly encourage you to go ahead and do it.

There’s no commitment and no catch – we’ll do our best to match you up, and will be on-hand to offer advice or support on making the most of this opportunity. The rest is up to you!

All support is offered on a completely voluntary basis and does not affect your rights as a furloughed worker.
