Celebrating 2017 at Echo

By Sarah Henderson

To round off 2017, we thought we’d share some of our highlights from a jam-packed year, as well as saying a massive thank you to all of YOU – the thousands of Echo members who made it possible.

1. A whole lot of skill-sharing

15,000 hours announcement

Echo members have now clocked up more than 15,000 hours of skill and services exchanged. This year you’ve traded everything from web design to photoshoots, macaron making to branding, plus interior design, osteopathy, accountancy, gardening and lots more – all for Echoes, not money.

2. 5 local superheroes

This year, the Echo Community Fund supported 5 East London superheroes to get their projects and ideas off the ground via our Community Fund. You guys gave a whopping 270+ hours of skills and expertise to support our 5 projects, including Flames basketball, Tech Tribe, East Village parent and toddler group and local photographer Qavi. One of our projects, the Hackney Wick Silver Surfers was such a success it’s now been funded to continue into 2018, with volunteer coordinator and Echo member Alison at the helm. 3. 107 inspiring entrepreneurs

In 2017 we supported a further 107 local entrepreneurs through our Echo++ accelerator programmes. From fitness apps to bookshops, workspaces to film cooperatives, it’s been a privilege to see so many brilliant business ideas get started and grow. And we’ve worked with some superstar Echo members to help make the programme happen too: Open to Create, Hackney House, Loughborough University, Impact Hubs, The Trampery, Make Happy, Hello Fresh, Flock Global, Lunar HQ, Sublime Magazine and Love Public Speaking, to name but a few.

Applications are currently open for our newest Echo++ programme, Fashion++ – co-designed with London College of Fashion.

4. 29 local events and workshops

It’s been a delight to meet hundreds of you at our workshops and socials throughout the year. From our sold-out InDesign workshops with Azuko to Gianne’s cooking masterclass, local Photo Walks to our Summer Party at Stour Space and Midwinter Wonderful at the Trampery Republic, we’re big fans of bringing people together IRL, and look forward to lots more Echo events and workshops next year.

5. You!

Our brilliant members – we continue to be inspired and amazed by the things you’re creating, making and doing. Head over to our Instagram account to see some of our members in action.
