10 heartwarming highlights from 2019 to inspire your 2020 – each and every one powered by the Echo community.
1. Echo is now a community of 5,500+ members.
You have traded more than 20,000 hours of skills and services together, ranging from branding to bike fixing, graphic design to party planning & everything in between.

2. Supporting community champions.
The modern identity looks fantastic, speaks directly to the young people they help but also the funders they need to engage.
3. Realising your dreams.
Photographer Tamara set out to crowdfund the production of her first book ‘Ridley Road Market’ in 2019.
Member Jes Bailey of Crowdfund 360 shared her tip and tactics, and Tamara went on to smash her target raising £14,042 from 211 supporters.
The book’s now published.
4. Dancing with the elderly.
The Palace Club, a social club for over 65s in Hackney teamed up with award-winning dance company and member Studio Wayne McGregor.
The one-off class went down so well they’ve since agreed to deliver a weekly dance & movement class starting this month to get isolated elders moving and grooving.
5. Parents supporting parents.
Led by member Chloe, the East Village Parent Club launched last year to support new mums and dads who may be feeling low, lost or lonely by connecting them with other parents.
The group has proven super popular, welcoming 100+ parents through its doors, helping them navigate this crazy, sleep-deprived period in their lives.
6. Giving startups ‘a space to grow’.
Coworking space Workable partnered with Echo to support local startups by gifting a 6-month free membership to two East London entrepreneurs keen to grow their business, skills and networks.
7. Karma boosting business.
Always the first to help others, Mareli’s catered for youth events, OAPs, and our community chest projects. So, it’s great to she was commissioned to cater for 300 people at the Here East Christmas Party.
8. Learning skills for life.
The Committee is a programme for 15-19 year-olds who learn creative producing skills with The Yard Theatre.
In December, Echo members gave up their evening to help 12 teenagers get some mock interview practice under their belts to prepare them for the world of work this year.
9. Big players helping the little guys.
Developers Balfour Beatty & Places for People have found creative ways to give back to the community in East London by partnering with Echo last year.
They’ve taught IT to Hackney’s senior citizens, led a finance surgery for local startups and have started building projects at the new community gardens in Hackney Wick – all for Echoes.
10. Exciting times ahead.
Echo Social – Tues 18th Feb at The Hall.
Join us as we blast away those winter blues by celebrating local people and organisations creating positive impact in their communities. There’ll be all the usual Echo Social fun, food, drink and conversation.
